{"id":2201,"date":"2020-12-07T13:16:02","date_gmt":"2020-12-07T09:16:02","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/qia.az\/en\/?p=2201"},"modified":"2020-12-07T13:16:03","modified_gmt":"2020-12-07T09:16:03","slug":"european-commission-welcomes-launch-of-tap","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/qia.az\/en\/european-commission-welcomes-launch-of-tap\/","title":{"rendered":"European Commission welcomes launch of TAP"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>The European Commission welcomed the start of the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) operations, the last stretch of the Southern gas corridor, thanks to which gas pumped from the Shah Deniz offshore gas field in Azerbaijan started reaching Italy,\u00a0<strong>&#8220;Q\u0130A.AZ&#8221;<\/strong>\u00a0informs, citing Euractiv.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Commission spokesperson&nbsp;<strong>Tim McPhie<\/strong>&nbsp;said the EU executive &#8220;welcomes the start of the TAP operation, which connects Greece to Italy through Albania, bringing Caspian gas to consumers in the EU.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;The project will increase choice and competition, improve energy security and diversify gas supply, particularly in Italy, Greece, and Bulgaria, as well as the South-East European region. TAP is a project of EU common interest and an important part of the Southern gas corridor&#8221;, McPhie emphasized.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The&nbsp;<strong>878<\/strong>&nbsp;km long pipeline connects with the Trans Anatolian Pipeline (TANAP) at the Turkish-Greek border in Kipoi, crosses Greece and Albania, and the Adriatic Sea, before coming ashore in Southern Italy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The pipeline has a capacity of&nbsp;<strong>10<\/strong>&nbsp;billion cubic meters a year (bcm\/y) and is designed with the potential to double its throughput capacity to&nbsp;<strong>20<\/strong>&nbsp;bcm\/y.
