For the first time, China has become the biggest trading partner of the EU, displacing the US, the historical ally of the EU, from the first position, reads the report of the Eurostat, the Statistical Office of the EU within the European Commission, “QİA.AZ” informs, referring to TASS.
“Last year, China became the main partner of the EU,” the document says.
In 2020, EU imports from China grew by 5.6 percent to 383.5 billion euros, exports to China – by 2.2 percent to 202.5 billion euros. With the US, the dynamics are opposite – American imports to the EU fell by 13.2 percent – to 202 billion euros, while EU exports to the US decreased by 8.2 percent – to 353 billion euros.
In addition to the COVID pandemic, the change in trade dynamics was in no small part a consequence of the Brexit.
