“Five years have passed since those events. We have drawn many lessons for Turkey, and we bear responsibility for what we have learned,” Turkish ambassador to Azerbaijan Cahit Bagci said, speaking at an online conference ‘July 15 – the Democracy and National Unity Day of Turkey.’

According to Report, the ambassador added that the events of July 15, 2015, nearly turned into a Patriotic war for Turkey.

“July 15 is a symbol of revival. The Turkish nation has supported the leadership of the country. Just like our Azerbaijani brothers liberated their ancestral lands in Karabakh from Armenian occupation and returned home. This is what the demonstration of national will means,” the ambassador said.

The Turkish diplomat urged not to forget what was happening in the streets of various Turkish cities – in Ankara and Istanbul – those days.

“July 15 differs from all other dates. We honor the memory of all heroes who died during those events! May Allah rest them in peace!”

A coup attempt occurred in Turkey on the night of July 16, 2016. A group of militaries tried to usurp power in the country but failed to do so after thousands of people took to the streets in response to President Erdogan’s appeal to support the incumbent government. More than 250 died in the clashes at that time.
