A small group of British special forces may stay in Afghanistan after the withdrawal of the bulk of the troops, Report informs referring to The Telegraph.
Boris Johnson is expected to make a final decision on July 5 at a National Security Council meeting.
However, one former Special Air Service (SAS) soldier who was recently in Afghanistan said that the decision was as good as done. A small number of troops will remain in the country as an “advisory group.”
He added the role of the SAS in Afghanistan would be to “provide training to Afghan units and deploy with them on the ground as advisors.”
The former SAS source added there was “no determined time” for how long British special forces will remain stationed throughout the country.
Earlier it was reported that the UK and the US would complete the withdrawal of the bulk of their troops from Afghanistan on July 4.
