The European Union ultimately gave up on plastic utensils after the corresponding law came into force on July 3, European Commissioner for Environment, Oceans and Fisheries Virginijus Sinkevičius , informs.
The EU official noted that the law prohibits the production and sale of single-use plastic plates, cutlery, straws, balloon sticks, cotton buds, cups, food and beverage containers made of expanded polystyrene, and all products made of oxo-degradable plastic.
The bill was adopted by the European Parliament back in 2019. By July 3, all EU countries were required to remove all single-use plastic products from the market.
Since July 1, Azerbaijan has also banned importing, producing, and selling disposable plastic tableware.
