It’s hard to overestimate Azerbaijan’s role in the South Caucasus in logistics and security matters, Georgian political analyst Gela Vasadze told Report, commenting on the statements of EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi during his visit to the South Caucasus.
The expert noted the vital role of the South Caucasus in the communication system between the markets of Asia and Europe.
He said that Azerbaijan is ‘an organic part and one of the region’s leading drivers.
“Now the region is being reformatted. This is a fascinating process. All parties have their policy tools. The EU has program funding to maintain stability, which is especially important in the pandemic,” the political scientist noted, adding that the EU is developing several alternatives for gas supplies.
“The alternative is important. It is impossible to imagine this alternative without Azerbaijan and the Southern Gas Corridor,” the expert emphasized.
Azerbaijan’s important role in the energy supply of Europe was also noted by EU Commissioner for Neighborhood and Enlargement Oliver Varhelyi during his visit to the countries of the South Caucasus.
Azerbaijan is a strong partner and has already begun to provide its assistance in terms of diversification of energy resources, Varhelyi said.
