Japan sees its highest COVID incidence to date

Over the past day, Japan registered 14,200 new cases of coronavirus infection, which is the highest figure for the Asian country since the pandemic onset, Report informs via Japanese media.

To date, 972,000 people have contracted the virus in Japan. The deadly pathogen has claimed 15,200 in the country.

Tokyo also saw its highest incidence to date with 4,166 new cases detected in the Japanese capital over the past day.

The city experiences shortage of hospital beds for patients with moderate severity and mild symptoms. Since July 15, the number of those who are required to stay at home for treatment has increased 11 times and exceeds 10,000 people.

The prefectures neighboring Tokyo, Saitama (1,200), Chiba (8400, Kanagawa (1,484), also saw their highest incidence today. In Okinawa, the number of new cases exceeded 600 for the first time.
