Kazakhstan eyes launching plant for production of vaccines against COVID

In September, the Kazakh authorities plan to launch a new biopharmaceutical plant in Gvardeyskiy settlement of Zhambyl region, where the production of QazVac, a local vaccine against coronavirus, will be launched, Deputy Prime Minister Yeraly Tugzhanov said at an expanded government meeting, Report informs referring to TASS.

“The commissioning of the biopharmaceutical plant is at the final stage. On July 19 this year, a trial launch of the plant was successfully carried out. A GMP certificate (international quality standards, Good Manufacturing Practice) and a license to carry out pharmaceutical activities were issued. Starting from September this year, the plant will start industrial production of the QazVac vaccine with a monthly volume of 600,000 doses,” Tugzhanov said.

Scientists and specialists from the Scientific Research Institute for Biological Safety Problems of Kazakhstan worked on creating the inactivated QazVac vaccine. The first batches of the vaccine were produced based on this research institute and entered the regions.

On April 26, vaccination with QazVac, a local drug against coronavirus, began in the republic.
