Russia sees over 17,000 new COVID cases

The number of confirmed cases of coronavirus infection in Russia has increased by 17,262 over the past day, to 5,281,309, Report informs, referring to TASS.

This is the highest increase in the number of infected people in Russia since February 1, 2021.

The number of deaths due to coronavirus has increased by 453 over the past day compared to 416 a day earlier, the highest figure since March 18. In total, 128,445 people have died with the infection since the beginning of the pandemic.

In relative terms, the increase in the number of cases was 0.33 percent.

The proportion of those infected with coronavirus in Moscow on June 18 exceeded 10 percent of the city’s population. However, according to the mayor of the city, Sergei Sobyanin, more than 60 percent of Muscovites either have already had COVID or got vaccinated against it.
