Today, the last 6 Azerbaijani athletes will compete at the Tokyo 2020 Summer Olympics.
According to Report, a team of group exercises in rhythmic gymnastics will take the stage first. The “5” consisting of Laman Alimuradova, Zeynab Hummatova, Elizaveta Luzan, Narmina Samadova, and Darya Sorokina will perform with five balls, then three hoops and two pairs of hammers. In the qualifying round, the teams ranking in the top 8 will reach the final. The final stage will be held on August 8.
Another athlete who will start the fight will be Irina Zaretska. The Ukrainian legionnaire, who weighs over 61 kg, will be in Group B among female karatekas. She will face Ayumi Uekusa (Japan), Silvia Semeraro (Italy), Sofya Berultseva (Kazakhstan), and Meltem Akyol Hocaoğlu (Turkey). If she holds one of the first two places in the group, Zaretska will advance to the semifinals and secure at least a bronze medal.
Today, Azerbaijani freestyle wrestler Haji Aliyev (65 kg) will also reach the final. His opponent will be Japanese Takuto Otoguro.
Another freestyle wrestler Sharif Sharifov (97 kg), and female wrestler Maria Stadnik (50 kg) will compete for bronze medals. Sharifov must first beat Elizbar Odikadze (Georgia), then Reineris Salas Perez (Cuba) to claim medal.
If Stadnik beats the winner of Namuuntsetseg Tsogt Ochir (Mongolia) – Lucia Yamileth Yepez Guzman (Ecuador) pair, she will be on the podium.
