Expert: Armenia shows selective approach to provisions of tripartite agreement

“Provocations at this section of the state border between Azerbaijan and Armenia have recently become frequent,” Azerbaijan’s political expert Ilgar Velizade said, commenting on the situation at the section of the Gorus-Gafan road not far from the Ashaghi Jibikli village.

Report informs that, according to the expert, the road passing through this section is used to smuggle goods, including from Iran. And it caused the outrage of the Azerbaijani side, which repeatedly made it clear that it will respond to such illegal actions,”

On August 25, two Armenian soldiers stabbed Ruslan Shiraliyev, a soldier of the Border Troops of the State Border Service of Azerbaijan. The incident occurred at the border combat station of the separate border division Gubadli, located at the section of the Gorus-Gafan road near the Ashaghi Jibikli village. The Armenian soldiers fleed the scene after they saw other border guards rushing to the rescue.

After that, the Armenian media reported that the traffic at this section of the road was restricted.

“The incident with the stabbing of our border guard exhausted Azerbaijan’s patience, and official Baku reacted in line with the norms of international law, using the right to the respective sections of the automobile road passing via Azerbaijan, to block them and prevent the repetition of such actions in the future,” the expert said.

At the same time, according to him, the Armenian side, as usual, responded inadequately to Azerbaijan’s actions, demanding the opening of this section of the automobile road, referring to the tripartite agreement of November 10 last year.

“However, the Armenian side, as it always does, is interpreting the agreement in a manner typical of it, trying to refer to the provisions about deblocking all communication lines indicated in the tripartite agreement. They ignore the fact that the Armenian side is still blocking large sections of the territories connecting the enclave settlements of Azerbaijan with the main part of Azerbaijan. Such selective approach to the provisions of the tripartite agreement characterizes the current policy of the Armenian political leadership.”

According to the expert, these events must become a lesson for those who do not understand Azerbaijan’s noble intentions.

“We also pay attention to the provisions of the trilateral agreement, which clearly define the duties of the parties. And if the Armenian party continues to hinder the implementation of all these paragraphs related to deblocking communications and issues of security, Azerbaijan will respond accordingly,” he said.
