Ukrainian world-famous carol song performed on Azerbaijani musical instruments

The world-famous carol song “Shchedryk” by the Ukrainian composer Nikolai Leontovich has been traveling the world for the second century, bringing Ukrainian culture to new cities and countries. More than 100 years ago, the melody “Shchedryk” sounded for the first time on the Ukrainian choir’s tour in North America and soon gained extraordinary popularity as the legendary song “Carol of the bells”.

It is symbolic that exactly a century later the Ukrainian “Shchedryk” returned to the Old World to be heard from the peaks of the majestic and beautiful Caucasus Mountains.

QİA.AZ was told at the Ukrainian Embassy in Baku that talented Ukrainian musician Polina Desyatnichenko came to Azerbaijan from Canada to study mugham.

And the created Ukrainian-Azerbaijani tandem consisting of Polina Desyatnichenko, Togrul Asadullayev, Chinara Heydarova, Vafa Shiraliyeva, Shafa Karimova and Azad Alimammadov gave the Ukrainian “Shchedrik” an opportunity to sound in a new way with the help of ancient Azerbaijani musical instruments. By tradition, the Ukrainian “Shchedryk” informs the world about the approaching New Year holidays.

Ukrainian “Shchedryk” and the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Azerbaijan congratulate the fraternal Azerbaijani people on the coming New Year and wholeheartedly wish peace and prosperity in the new year 2021!
